Everyone who owns a Windows PC knows they need to have an Anti-virus program.  What if there was something else you could do that would reduce your chance of virus or malware infection by more than 90%?  How much would you pay for this much better protection?  Note:  This information is for home and workgroup enabled systems. (If you are part of a Domain, contact your administrator and ask about your account.)

Here is your answer, for free.

Step one - Create an administrator local account

Once you create a password for a local account, don't forget it—there is no easy way to recover a lost password for local accounts.

  • On Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Professional editions:

    • Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Accounts > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC.

    • Enter a user name (we recommend not using Admin), a strong password (12 characters or more), password hint, and then select Next.

  • On Windows 10 Enterprise edition:

    • Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Accounts > Other people > Add someone else to this PC.

    • At the bottom of the page, select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information, and at the bottom of the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account.

    • Enter a user name (we recommend not using Admin),a strong password (12 characters or more), password hint, and then select Next.

  • To make the new account an administrator account, select Start  > Settings  > Account > Family & other people (or Other people, if you're using Windows 10 Enterprise), and select Change account type. Under Account type, select Administrator > OK. Restart your machine and sign in with the new administrator account.

Step two - Modify your account

To change your account to regular account,

a.      Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.

b.      Go to User Accounts and select Manage another account.

c.       Select your account and click on Change Account Type.

d.      Select Standard and click Change Account Type.

Step three - Login using your normal account.

You have just increased your protection by 90%
